Mrs. Rose Silva Dies
Operated Marin Dairy Ranch
Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Mrs. Rose A. Silva, 80, who with her husband, Antone, operated the Tunnel Ranch dairy farm on what is now the site of Rafael Meadows.
Mrs. Silva died Saturday evening at a local hospital after being hospitalized two weeks.
Since she and her husband retired from dairy ranching 22 years ago they have lived at 818 Grant avenue in Novato.
Mrs. Silva was a native of St. George Island in the Azores and came to the United States when she was 24. A year later she married Silva in San Rafael. The Silvas operated a dairy ranch in the San Joaquin Valley before returning to Marin County.
Their Tunnel Ranch took its name from a Northwestern Pacific Railroad tunnel through a nearby hill.
Mrs. Silva was a member of Flor de Marin, Council 38 of the Brotherhood of St. Anthony, and Ermandade Senhora da Fatima of Sausalito.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Anthony H. Silva of Corte Madera and John M. Silva of San Rafael; two daughters, Mrs. William Antonio of Novato and Mrs. Pat McCarthy of Santa Rita Park, Merced County; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary be recited at 8 o’clock this evening at Redwood Funeral Chapel in Novato.
