PAUL VINCILIONE

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Paul Vincilione, a lifelong Marin resident and general engineering contractor who lived in Nicasio Valley.

Mr. Vincilione died unexpectedly at his home in Palm Desert, Riverside County. He was 80.

He was born in Sausalito, had lived in Larkspur and t hen lived for many years on a ranch on NIcasio Valley Road.

Many of the county’s large earthmoving contracts, such as digging out the ammunition bunkers at Hamilton Field at the start of World War II, were done by his company, the P. H. Vincilione firm.

He also prepared the ground for such projects as Kentfield Gardens and Hillview housing subdivisions, Hillhaven Convalescent Hospital and Redwood High School.

He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Vincilione is survived by his wife, Alice; two sons, Paul Vincilione Jr. of Santa Rosa and Mike Vincilione of Nicasio Valley; a daughter, Jean Whittington of Sonoma; two brothers, Felix Vincilione of Sacramento and Lucien Vincilione of Forest Knolls; two sisters, Lillian Hansen and Dorothy Enos, both of San Rafael; and five grandchildren.

The family prefers memorial gifts to a favorite charity.
