SAMUEL G. BAGSHAW
Samuel G. Bagshaw, a member of a Mill Valley pioneer family, died Saturday at The Redwoods retirement home in Mill Valley at the age of 81.
In 1902, he and his family came to Marin from Hendon, England. The Bagshaws opened some of the first businesses in Mill Valley. Family members served in various political offices in Marin.
He worked for the Pacific Telephone Co. for 41 years, retiring in 1966 as a personnel supervisor.
He was a past master of Mill Valley Lodge No. 356 of the Masons. He also was a docent for the Mill Valley Historical Society, a lifetime member of the Marin Hearing and Speech Center and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Bagshaw and Patricia Simmons, both of Mill Valley; two brothers, Sydney Bagshaw of St. Lucia, West Indies and Jack Bagshaw of Sonoma; and four grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no service. The family prefers memorial gifts to the Mill Valley Historical Society, 375 Throckmorton Ave., Mill Valley, 94941, or Marin Support, 240 Channing Way, San Rafael, 94903.
