Former Assessor Taken by Death

Ira H. Parks, for a period of twelve years the county assessor of Marin county, died at his home in Fruitvale, Monday after an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Parks, during his long residence in this county, as a private citizen and as a county official, made and retained hundreds of respecting friends, who heard with sorrow the announcement of his death.

His place in the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens is attested by the fact that for three consecutive terms of four years each he was entrusted with the conduct of the Assessor’s office. He held that office continuously from 1894 to 1906. After his retirement from office he went with his family to Fruitvale where he engaged in the mercantile business until illness overtook him. He was 64 years of age.

He was a prominent figure in fraternal circles here, having been active as a member of Marin Lodge No. 191, F. & A. M., Marin Lodge No. 200, I. O. O. F., and San Rafael Encampment No. 106, I. O. O. F.

He is survived by Mrs. Clara E. Parks, his widow, and two daughters, Miss Eva O. Parks, and Mrs. Meta Messick of Los Angeles.

The funeral was held yesterday at the family residence, 3562 Foothill Boulevard, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows lodge of Fruitvale, and the remains were cremated at the Oakland crematory.
