CHESTER JUDAH

A private funeral will be held for Chester Judah, a retired ship’s captain for the Dollar Lines and member of a pioneer San Francisco family.

Mr. Judah died in his sleep Thursday in his Tiburon home. He was 78.

Born in Mill Valley, he was a descendant of Theodore Judah, for whom Judah Street in San Francisco is names. He was active in San Francisco Masonic organizations in earlier years.

Mr. Judah served more than 40 years in the Merchant Marine. He also served in the Army during Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s recapture of the Philippine Islands in World War II, and lived in the islands for some years before retiring to Tiburon in 1963.

He is survived by his wife, Greta Judah; two sons, Chester Judah Jr. and Ray Judah; a daughter, Eileen Stafford, and three grandchildren.

Burial will be private.
