Clarence Whitaker Succumbs to Shock

Clarence S. Whitaker, secretary of the Marin Municipal Water District, died suddenly about noon today following a stroke of apoplexy suffered this morning shortly after his arrival at his office.

The news of the sad event was a distinct shock to the people of San Rafael, most of whom were intimately acquainted with the deceased. The affliction came while Whitaker was sitting at his desk opening his mail. He was stricken speechless. Office employees immediately secured a physician, and the patient was removed to the Cottage Hospital.

The two sons, Lester, the oldest, and Clarence, were summoned and the latter arrived here after his father had passed away. Lester Whitaker is stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco.

As Deputy Clerk of Marin county, and former Town Trustee of San Anselmo, Whitaker had become widely known here, and he was universally well liked. Prior to his coming to Marin county he held an important position with the Spring Valley Water Company in San Francisco.

There is an air of deep sorrow among the court house officials, all of whom held the deceased in the very highest regards.

The deceased was a prominent member and officer of the San Rafael lodge of Elks.

Besides his two sons, he is survived by a sorrowing widow.

At the time of going to press no funeral arrangements have been made. Whitaker was 44 years of age.
