Sudden Death of E. A. Cox
E. A. Cox of this city went to Seattle on business and while there was taken sick suddenly and died last Wednesday morning, Feb. 27. Death is supposed to have resulted from a severe cold contracted on his trip north. Mrs. Cox was expecting to join her husband, but a telegram announcing his death changed her plans. He was a native of England and about 50 years of age. About two years ago he purchased the handsome Josselyn property and moved to this city. He was general manager of the North American Commercial Co.
The funeral took place from St. Luke’s church in San Francisco Sunday afternoon. The train from the north was five hours late and the remains were taken directly to the church. The casket was completely covered with a pall of violets, and many beautiful floral tokens were placed in the chancel.
The services were conducted by the Rev. Wyllys Hall of the Episcopal Church of San Rafael, of which the deceased was a vestryman. Besides the regular service, the California Quartet composed of Clarence T. Wendel, Dr. Robert W. Smith, C. L. Gage and E. G. McBain sang “Lead Kindly Light” and “Abide With Me,” and Mrs. Grace Dickman sang “Love Divine.” Interment followed at Laurel Hill Cemetery. The pall-bearers were Hugh Tevis, Henry Wadworth, James Reed, H. H. Taylor, G. D. Boyd and G. E. Butler.
