HENRY C. WOOD
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Palo Alto for Henry C. Wood, a longtime resident of Fairfax and active participant in the Marin Community College Emeritus program.
Mr. Wood, a native of San Francisco and member of a pioneer California family, died Sunday at Kaiser Hospital in Terra Linda after a brief illness. He was 81.
He was born in San Francisco and lived there during the 1906 earthquake and fire. His family was among the pioneers in the Scott Valley in the Klamath River area, moving there in 1852.
He moved to Fairfax about 20 years ago.
Mr. Wood attended Stanford University and had worked for the Bank of Italy and Remington Rand Corp. He also worked as a civilian supply officer at the Presidio of San Francisco.
He helped set up the Emeritus program at the College of Marin in Kentfield and was active in promoting it. He was a member of the Stanford Alumni Association and Sons in Retirement in Marin County.
He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Wood is survived by two daughters, Betty-Jo Popp of Palo Alto and Patricia Wood of Cupertino; a sister, Dorothy Ross of Santa Cruz; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Roller & Hapgood & Tinney mortuary in Palo Alto.
Burial will be at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto.
The family prefers memorial donations to the St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Community School, 1093 Channing Ave., Palo Alto, or Semperverns Fund, Drawer BE, Los Altos, 94022.
