Two Marin Boys Lost on Sunken Submarine

Two Marin county boys went down to death on the ill-fated submarine F-4, which lies in 300 feet of water off the Honolulu coast. They were Harry Withers, formerly of Sausalito, a gunner, and Frank Pierard, son of C. J. Pierard of Laverne.

Withers lived for several years in Sausalito. His father was at one time a foreman of construction on the North Pacific Coast Railroad.

Pierard made his home with his parents in Laverne for some time, but moved to San Diego, where his wife and family now live.

Every effort is to be made to raise the sunken fighting machine, although all hope of finding any of the men or officers alive was abandoned three days after the submarine was reported missing. It has now been submerged for about two weeks.
