ELIZABETH MEREDITH

A memorial service for Elizabeth Meredith of San Francisco, a former longtime Marin resident and founder and director of the Woodside Way Nursery School in Ross, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at 1908 Filbert St., San Francisco.

Mrs. Meredith died Aug. 16 in her home after a long illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Meredith had lived in Ross from 1942 to 1970. She founded the highly regarded Woodside Way Nursery School in 1947. Before opening the Ross school, she worked at the Marin City School Day Care Center and the Frederick Burke School Day Care Center.

In 1967, Mrs. Meredith retired and closed the school in order to devote more time to working for legislation involving children. Three years later, she and her late husband, Clate Meredith, moved to San Francisco.

She had been legislative chairwoman of the North Bay chapter of the California Association for the Education of Young Children and a member of the education committee of Nursery School Teacher Aide and the board of the Marin County United Nations Association.

Survivors are two daughters, Jo Ann Meredith of San Rafael and Lynne Arden of Los Angeles; and two grandsons.

The family prefers contributions to the Nicaragua Emergency Generator Project, 5A Cyrus Place, San Francisco, 94109, or to any peace organization.
