Rev. McDonald Died Thursday

The Rev. James S. McDonald, D. D. , one of the oldest ministers in California, died Thursday in Corte Madera.

Dr. McDonald came to San Francisco in 1862. He went first among the Indians of Humboldt county as missionary of the Presbyterian church, later becoming associated with the beginning of several Presbyterian churches.

He helped raise funds for the erection of the present Congregational church of San Rafael, which was the occupied by the Presbyterians.

He was chaplain of the senate while serving for five years the Westminster Presbyterian church in Sacramento. Dr. McDonald was a passenger on the first through train from California to the East.

He is survived by his wife and four daughters, Mrs. George S. Graham, Mrs. W. F. Lamme and Miss Margaret McDonald of San Rafael, and Mrs. F. E. Crofts of Berkeley.
