WILLIAM HORTON
A private service for William Horton of Belvedere, an international shipping executive, has been held. Mr. Horton died unexpectedly Friday in Tiburon.
Mr. Horton was born in Medina, Wash. He had lived in Marin for more than 20 years.
He graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., and the University of Washington. His degree was in international trade.
He was chairman of the board of Johnson Scanstar, a Swedish shipping company. He also was founder of Munro-Horton International, a consulting firm. He served on many boards related to the shipping industry.
He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Belvedere, San Francisco Yacht club and Tiburon Peninsula Club. He also was vice president of the California Council of International Trade and was on the board of the Marine Exchange.
During World War II, he served in the Navy.
Mr. Horton is survived by his wife, Joanne Horton of Belvedere; a daughter, Ann Horton of San Francisco; and a son, Peter Horton of Los Angeles.
The family asked that memorial contributions go to the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society or to the First Church of Christ Scientist Organ Fund in Belvedere.
