Sister LOUISE ROURKE
Sister M. Louise Rourke, O. P., 97, of San Rafael, died Sunday in Lourdes Infirmary at Dominican Convent in San Rafael after a brief illness.
She was born in San Francisco in 1886 and remembered when there was only sand where Golden Gate Park stands today.
She graduated from Girl’s High School in San Francisco in 1906, and in 1910 joined the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, where she was trained for high school teaching.
In the years that followed, she taught science and mathematics in Napa, Stockton, Vallejo, San Rafael, San Francisco and other California cities. She retired from teaching in 1958 and in 1977 moved to Lourdes Convent in San Rafael.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Dominican Chapel in San Rafael. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 tonight in the convent chapel.
Burial will be Wednesday at St. Dominic’s Cemetery in Benecia.
Memorial contributions are preferred to the infirmary at Dominican Convent.
