Postal service supervisor George Nelson dies at 54
George C. Nelson of San Anselmo, a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service in San Francisco, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1987, at Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center in San Rafael.
He was 54.
Mr. Nelson was a native of Kansas City, Kan.
He was raised in Sacramento.
As a young man, Mr. Nelson served in the National Guard.
He lived in San Francisco before moving to Marin in 1972. He had lived in San Anselmo for eight years.
Mr. Nelson was an avid sports fan and lived to play tennis.
He was a member and vice president of the San Anselmo Tennis Club.
Mr. Nelson taught adult education classes in management for the Tamalpais High School District in Marin. He also was a student in management in the extension program run by the University of California in Berkeley.
He was a volunteer with the Marin County Law Library.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Nelson of San Anselmo; a sister, B. Kay Erickson of Sacramento; his mother, Mildred Moehlig of Sacramento; and his grandmother, Nevada Wood of Sacramento.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Tamalpais Cemetery Chapel in San Rafael.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
The family prefers donations be made to a favorite charity.
