Retired businesswoman Evelyn Wydajewski, 75, dies

Evelyn Wydajewski of Novato, a retired businesswoman and investigator, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1987, at Novato Community Hospital.

She was 75.

Mrs. Wydajewski was born in Cleveland, Ohio.

After attending school in Cleveland, she earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Ohio State University.

Mrs. Wydajewski began her career with National Refining Co. in Cleveland, then moved to Armour & Co. in Oklahoma City. She later went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. in Kansas City, Kan. before moving to California.

She arrived in San Francisco in April 1937. She worked for Bank of America and later, Moore-McCormick Co.

Mrs. Wydajewski entered the Women’s Air Corps in July 1942 and served in World War II.

Later, she worked for the federal government at Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato, Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County and Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso, Texas. She lived in Vicenza, Italy, while employed by the Army.

During her career, she also worked as a model and dancer. She was an accomplished artist as well.

Mrs. Wydajewski purchased a house in Novato in 1947 and later returned there with her husband, Phillip.

She retired from civil service in June 1973, working five more years for the International Association of Credit Card Investigators.

Mrs. Wydajewski was a member of the Novato Senior Citizens and American Legion Post 540 at Hamilton Air Force Base.

She enjoyed swimming and gardening.

Her husband died in 1967.

Survivors include her stepchildren, Jack Claypool and Katy Sylvester, both of Cleveland.

At her request, there will be no services and her ashes will be scattered at sea.
