Death Removes 30 Year Resident

Joseph S. Andrade, a resident and businessman of San Rafael for the past thirty years, passed away at his home on B street Wednesday morning as the result of the first illness in his life of 75 years.

Coming as a young man from Fayal, Azores Islands, to Boston, he resided there a short time and then came to Sacramento. Thirty years ago he removed to San Rafael and opened a barber shop, where he had worked continuously until his attack of illness two weeks ago.

He leaves a sorrowing family of a widow and four sons, two of whom, Vasco and Leo, are corporals with Company D at Camp Kearny. Realizing that their father’s illness was fatal, the two boys last week secured a leave of absence and arrived here before their father lapsed into the semi-conscious condition which preceded his death.

The other sons, Manuel A. and Raymond J., are employed at the Journal office.

Mrs. Mary A. Andrade, the widow, is prominent in Portuguese fraternal societies.

The funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday) at St. Raphael’s Church, where a requiem mass will be celebrated at 9:30 o’clock. The interment will be private, and the family has made a request that friends kindly omit flowers.
