THELMA HORVATH
Thelma Horvath passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Guardian Smith Ranch, where she had been a resident since November of last year. She had survived a major fall in her garage on November 11, pneumonia at the end of January and a stroke at the end of February. At age 96, her body was very tired and Thelma felt her mission in life was complete.
Everyone delighted in listening to Mrs. Horvath’s childhood stories and family history, all of which was documented in 75 years of her journals. She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 215, for 53 years, and received the Rob Morris Award in 1987 for dedication and support of the organization. Through OES she organized a group of women to make cancer dressings. The dressings are free to cancer patients through the Cancer Society.
She was an active participant in the Glass Club through which she gathered information on her treasured collection of cream pitchers. Thelma’s grandmother started the collection and, over the years, Thelma added many beautiful pieces. Her collection now holds over 1,000 pieces, each with an interesting story and history.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, who passed away in 1992; and her daughter, Carrie Town, who died in 1987.
She is survived by her son Rennie and his wife Betty of Novato; her grandsons Michael Horvath of South Lake Tahoe and Jeff Town of Louisiana; and her sister, Reatha Dove of Redding, CA.
Services were held March 19 at Keaton Mortuary in San Rafael. Interment was at Shiloh Cemetery in Windsor.
