Mrs. Dollar’s Death Due To Smallpox
That Mrs. Melville Dollar, daughter-in-law of Captain Robert Dollar, died of smallpox within forty-eight hours after her visit to a certain quarter of Shanghai where there was an epidemic of the disease, was the news which reached here last week.
The announcement of her death was made by cablegram December 22 but the cause was not given.
One of a party, Mrs. Dollar was on a sightseeing tour of the Chinese quarter of the city, the report received here states, and after the visit all the members of the party burned their clothing. Mrs. Dollar was the only one affected, and death occurred in 48 hours.
