Old Mariner Taken By Death
Capt. Fabre, Aged 80, Succumbs to Acute Attack of Pneumonia
Captain Charles Fabre, sailor, miner and pioneer of the days of ’49, passed away at the Cottage Hospital Tuesday night after an acute attack of pneumonia.
He was 80 years of age, and came here in his early youth from France. For many years he was master of his own vessel which plied among Pacific Coast and South Pacific Islands ports.
At times he abandoned the sea for short periods and engaged in mining, but always returned to his favorite pursuit, life on the ocean.
Several years ago he came to the shores of Marin county, and since his first visit he had remained here almost constantly, living aboard his vessel.
A few months back he changed from the San Rafael canal to Santa Venetia, where he was anchored when stricken with his last illness. Alone in his boat for two or three days and without medical attention, his condition became so serious that when he was found by a visitor, Dr. J. H. Kuser, who was called, was unable to do anything for him.
He leaves a widow and several children.
