PETER J. VELLA
Peter J. Vella, a welder and boilermaker who lived in San Rafael, died Saturday at Marin General Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Vella, 72, worked in South San Francisco until he retired about 12 years ago. He was a member of the Boilermakers Union Local 6 of San Francisco.
He was born on Malta and came to the United States in 1936. He lived briefly in New York before moving to San Francisco where he resided for 27 years.
He went to live in Penngrove in 1963 and stayed there until 14 years, when he moved to San Rafael.
He is survived by five sons, Joseph Vella of Penngrove, Thomas Vella of Terra Linda, and John, Charles and David Vella, all of Petaluma; three daughters, Victoria and Rose Vella and Philomena Starling, all of Petaluma; two brothers, Charles Vella of Malta and Paul Vella of San Francisco; a sister, Philomena Scherri of San Francisco; and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Isabella’s Church in Terra Linda. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael.
The rosary will be recited at 7:30 tonight at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.
