AMY B. JACOBS

Private memorial services will be held for Amy B. Jacobs, 95, a resident of Mill Valley since 1959. She died at her home on Saturday.

A native of Unity, Wis., she taught school in Wisconsin before switching careers and becoming a nurse.

She was a nurse for about 60 years, part of the time as a Christian Science nurse. She had owned and operated two Christian Science nursing homes, one in Chicago and the other in El Cerrito.

She devoted her life to the Christian Science religion after one of her sons recovered from pneumonia. She had consulted a Christian Science practitioner about his illness.

Mrs. Jacobs had been a nurse at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Chicago during World War I. She later moved to Richmond in 1921 and then El Cerrito before coming to Mill Valley.

Her late husband, Hiram E. Jacobs, had been a municipal court judge in Contra Costa County. He was scheduled to become a superior court judge, but was too ill to take the position. He died in 1947.

She was a member of the Christian Science church of Mill Valley.

Mrs. Jacobs is survived by a daughter, Mary Belle Jacobs of Mill Valley; a son, Charles R. Jacobs of San Carlos; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. the family prefers memorial gifts in Mrs. Jacobs’ memory to the Arden Wood Benevolent Association, 445 Wawona St., San Francisco.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that she was also the mother of the late Hiram R. Jacobs.
