ALLEN W. MERRIAM Jr.
Novato resident Allen Wayne Merriam Jr. died Tuesday in a San Francisco hospital after a long illness. He was 63.
A native of New York, he moved to Marin County, settling in Larkspur in 1968 and moving to Novato in 1970.
He worked for the last 10 years as a self-employed manufacturer’s representative selling office supplies.
He was a graduate of Colgate University in New York in 1938 and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
He was a member of the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Novato, the 49ers Travel Club, and the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Merriam of Novato; a son, Allen W. Merriam III of Buffalo, N.Y.; a daughter, Candace Laase of Novato; a stepson, David Hoff of Petaluma; two sisters, Mrs. Rexford G. Moon Jr. of Closter, N.J., and Mrs. John P. Haun of Albany, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Novato.
