ELEANORE W. SELK
A memorial service for Eleanore W. Selk of Tiburon, a science writer and Marin resident for the past three years, will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Congregation Sherith Israel, 2266 California St., San Francisco.
Mrs. Selk died Sunday at a local hospital following a lengthy illness. She was 62.
Mrs. Selk was born in New York City and graduated from Hunter College. She lived on the East Coast until moving to Chicago in 1947. She lived in the area of South Shore for many years and was one of the founders of South Shore Community, one of the first neighborhood organizations in Chicago.
She worked for several years as the health science editor for the Northwestern University School of Medicine.
She moved to Marin in 1977 and worked as a medical science writer for the news office at the University of California at San Francisco.
She was active in the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War and was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women. She was a member of the Abalone Alliance of Marin, an anti-nuclear power organization.
She is survived by her husband, Gerson B. Selk; three daughters, Merry Selk Blodgett of Oakland, Nancy Selk of Chicago and Patricia Jan Selk of Washington, D.C.; her parents, Abe and Anna Weinblatt of Miami Beach; three brothers, Don Weinblatt of Evanston, Ill., and Jerome and Ray Weinblatt, both of New York City; and one grandchild.
The family prefers memorial donations to the Abalone Alliance of Marin or the American Cancer Society.
