ANNA I. BETTENCOURT

A Mass of Christian Burial for Anna I. Bettencourt, former Marin resident, will be said at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Petaluma.

Mrs. Bettencourt died Monday at a local convalescent hospital. She was 74 and had been in failing health since October.

A native of Petaluma, she was one of 16 children born to the late Frank and Anna Katen, whose families had been early settlers in Petaluma. She was reared on the family’s ranch on Queen’s Lane.

Mrs. Bettencourt and her husband, Anthony T. Bettencourt, started their married life in Ignacio where they operated a service station and a ranch.

The Bettencourts later moved to Healdsburg where they owned the Healdsburg Appliance Store. She retired from the business after her husband’s death.

Mrs. Bettencourt was a member of the Young Ladies Institute of St. Anselm’s Church in San Anselmo and the Native Daughters of the Golden West in Los Banos.

She is survived by two daughters, Anna Jensen of Tomales and Lorraine Silveira of Elk Grove; a son, Richard Bettencourt of San Anselmo; four sisters, Rita Heil, Marion Bettencourt and Rose Hiribarren of Petaluma and Lillian Silva of Los Banos; three brothers, Fred Katen and George Katen of Petaluma and Manuel Katen of Sebastopol; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Parent Funeral Chapel, Petaluma. Private burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.

The family prefers that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Sonoma County Unit, 811 College Avn., Santa Rosa 94904, or to a favorite charity.
