Frank Anthony Furtado
Retired school teacher
Frank Anthony Furtado, a retired school teacher, died March 27. He was 76.
Mr. Furtado was born in Berkeley and attended Hayward High School, San Jose State University, the University of California and San Francisco State University. He also served in the U.S. Navy for three years and participated in the D-Day invasion.
He began his career as a national park ranger on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. He later worked in other national parks before receiving his secondary teaching credential in 1956. He spent most of his teaching career at Terra Linda High School. He retired in 1982.
After retirement he studied gemology.
Over the years Mr. Furtado and his family traveled across Europe, Africa and the Americas. He enjoyed fishing, camping, art history, cooking, swimming, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lorraine of Marinwood; daughters, Mary Stuart of Rohnert Park and Anna Furtado of Fremont; brother, Robert Furtado of Idaho; and two grandchildren.
A memorial picnic will be held later this year at Tomales Bay State Park. Details may be obtained by contacting family members.
