Sudden Death Takes Michael Halloran
Night Patrolman Answer Last Call at Petaluma Avenue Home

The sudden death of Michael B. Halloran last Monday was a shock to every person in San Rafael who knew and admired the man who had been serving on the night police force here for the past five or six years.

He was the victim of acute indigestion, and death came without a moment’s warning shortly after he had risen from bed. He had been ill for a day or two the latter part of last week, but on Sunday he had served as patrolman at a nearby picnic grounds and Sunday night was covering his regular job in San Rafael. To friends he said before he went home Monday morning that he never had felt better in his life.

Halloran had many times proved himself a fearless officer and one of highest integrity. He was a fair and impartial man and it was only in cases where such procedure served the purpose best that he made arrests. And it can be said that when he had decided upon taking a man into custody, the man soon landed behind the bars.

The deceased leaves a sorrowing family of a widow, Mrs. Mary E. Halloran, and two children, Marie A. and George B. Halloran. He was a brother of Mrs. Thomas Redding and Belle H. Halloran. [He] was born in New York and was 48 years of age.

The funeral, which was well attended, was held this morning at St. Raphael’s church, and burial was made at Mt. Olivet cemetery under the direction of Dr. F. E. Sawyer.

The pall bearers were Michael Burke, J. J. Keating, Edward Healy, Peter O’Brien and E. J. Connell.
