John Freitas An Influenza Victim

The many friends of John Freitas, who conducted the blacksmith shop on C street, were shocked to hear of his death, which occurred late last Thursday night following an attack of influenza. He had been ill but a week, so short a time, in fact, that not many of his acquaintances were aware of his sickness.

John was a San Rafael boy and had spent all his life here. For many years he had worked for Cochrane Brothers, learning his trade with them. Later he engaged in business for himself.

He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Catherine Freitas. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Freitas and the brother of Mrs. F. J. Mathews and Mrs. Rosa Freitas, of Veriageton, Nevada, and Joseph and Tony Freitas, the latter in the service in France.

The funeral was held Tuesday at the home, 526 C street, with services later at St. Raphael’s church. Dr. F. E. Sawyer directed the services.
