MARY J. McDONALD
A private funeral service for Mary J. McDonald of Belvedere, a Marin resident for 40 years and wife of a former president of the Southern Pacific Railroad, was held Friday.
Mrs. McDonald died Wednesday. She was 98.
She was born in Oakland and was raised there. She was married to Angus McDonald who died in 1941.
McDonald was president of the Southern Pacific for about three years before his death.
The couple lived in New York before moving back to the Bay Area. Mrs. McDonald lived at one time in the Mark Hopkins Hotel before the couple built their home in Belvedere in about 1940.
Mrs. McDonald was active in several San Francisco organizations, especially those dealing with the symphony and opera. She was a member of the Metropolitan Club and the Olympic Club. She also served on the governing board of the San Francisco Symphony.
She is survived by a nephew, Seymour Snaer of Belvedere.
Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oakland.
The family prefers memorial donations to St. Hilary’s Church in Tiburon.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that she was also the aunt of Bernice Kelly of Santa Barbara, and great-aunt of Mary Forest of Yarmoth Port, Mass., and Denise Snaer of Belvedere.
