JOHN P. HURD
Memorial services for John P. Hurd, 71, a 40-year resident of Mill Valley, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mill Valley Community Church.
He died on Saturday at his home after a long illness.
A native of North Dakota, he had moved to Oregon with his family as a child. The family later settled in Santa Rosa. He graduated from the Santa Rosa Junior College.
He was the area administrative officer with the state Department of Employment in San Francisco for 35 years before retiring in 1971.
Hurd was a member of the Santa Rosa Lodge No. 57 F. & A.M., Sons In Retirement and the California State Employees Association.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hurd of Mill Valley; a daughter, Joanne Stone of Sebastopol; a son, Gerald P. Hurd of Redwood Valley; three sisters, Mildred Keller of Vancouver, Wash., Blanche Hurd and Ruth Wade, both of Santa Rosa; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. The family prefers memorial gifts to the Marin County Heart Association or to a favorite charity.

A Death Notice in the same paper mentions the grandchildren as John, Ivan and Winifred Stone, all of Petaluma.
