MARILYN C. SWEENEY

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marilyn Christian Sweeney of Novato, a long-time Marin resident, will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Sylvester’s Church I the Peacock Gap area of San Rafael.

Mrs. Sweeney, 53, died Sunday at Novato Community Hospital after being rushed there when she became ill unexpectedly.

She was born in San Francisco and had lived in Marin County since 1953. She was a graduate of Dominican College of San Rafael.

She and her family first lived in Kentfield and then in San Rafael for many years before moving to Novato about three years ago.

Mrs. Sweeney had been a clerk for the past three years for the state Department of Savings and Loan in San Francisco.

She was the wife of Eugene F. Sweeney, one of the earliest imported car dealers in Marin. He later sold his auto agency in San Rafael and became a yacht broker.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sweeney is survived by two daughters, Kathy Murphy of Truckee and Marilyn Sweeney of San Rafael; two sons, John and Jim Sweeney, both of San Rafael; one brother, Robert Christian of San Francisco, and two sisters, Jane Waal of San Francisco and Elaine Carlsmith of Hilo, Hawaii.

One son, Eugene F. Sweeney Jr., died earlier.

Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Monte’s Mission Chapel in San Rafael.

The family prefers memorial contributions to Dominican College of San Rafael.
