JOHN F. NIELSEN

A Memorial Mass for John Francis Nielsen, 56, of San Rafael, a former Forest Knolls postmaster, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia’s Church in Lagunitas.

Nielsen died Wednesday at a local hospital after a long illness.

After serving as postmaster for 11 years Nielsen was in the insurance business and conducted a delivery business.

He was a native of San Francisco who lived most of his life in Marin. Nielsen attended San Francisco City College and the University of California at Davis.

He was an Army Air Corps staff sergeant during World War II, with service in Europe.

Surviving are three daughters, Theresa of Pacifica, Kathleen of Thailand and Mary of Arizona; six sons, Timothy and Joseph Nielsen of Florida and Michael, James, Thomas and Jon Nielsen, all of Forest Knolls, and eight grandchildren.

His ashes will be scattered along the Pacific Coast. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Marin Senior Day Service.
