Lad Drowned In Bathing Pool
Alfred Wilson, of Sausalito, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wilson, was drowned Monday afternoon while swimming in a bathing pool on the grounds of the S. Laz Lansburgh home in Stinson Beach.
The tragedy occurred in the presence of Wilson’s cousin, Tony Lawrence, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lawrence, at whose home young Wilson was visiting. Wilson was an expert swimmer. The boys entered the water shortly after noon, and it is believed that Wilson was seized with cramp. The Lawrence boy, seeing his companion sink beneath the water, ran for aid. He summoned Lansburgh’s gardener, a man named O’Keefe. O’Keefe was unable to recover the body. The alarm was spread then and help came from many quarters. William Lawrence, another cousin, and Tony Fontes reached the pool, and diving, Lawrence was able to bring the body of his cousin to the surface. Exhausted from a long run and his heroic efforts, Lawrence then in turn was rescued from the pool by those who stood on the concrete curbing.
Efforts were made to resuscitate the drowned lad by Dr. C. W. Mack and Captain Theodore Conick, of U. S. Coast Guard Station at Bolinas, but without success. The men worked over the body for two hours before hope was abandoned.
Coroner J. Ray Keaton and his deputy, William Sorensen were notified and late brought the body to San Rafael.
