Despondent Woman Takes Own Life

Despondent and grieving over the death of her husband, Moritz Koppel, in January of this year, Mrs. Florence Koppel ended her life in the bed room of her home here Friday morning by firing a bullet into her brain.

Her two children, Adelbert, aged 14, and Irene, 12, in adjoining rooms, heard the shot and entering the room found their mother dead.

Coroner J. Ray Keaton, called at once, found scraps of wrapping paper, magazine covers and pieces of cardboard covered with writing left by the woman to her children and friend to be read after her death. In none of them did she intimate that she intended to take her life.

Mrs. Koppel leaves property valued at about $60,000, bequeathed to her by her husband.

Koppel, who died January 17, was widely known as a grain and feed expert. He was associated for many years with the George W. McNear Company in San Francisco. Koppel was the second son of the late Baron and Baroness Koppel of Germany.
