Death Claims Accident Victim

Charles Mehrtens, of the Marin Oil & Burner Company, passed away this morning at the Emergency Hospital as the result of injuries received Tuesday morning when he was pinned between two automobile trucks at his home on D street.

At the hospital, Dr. J. H. Kuser and Dr. R. G. Dufficy exerted every effort to save the man’s life, but they were convinced from the first that the injuries would prove fatal. According to reports of the accident, Mehrtens had just towed one truck out of his yard and when the tow chain had parted, he was in the act of hooking it together when the rear truck moved forward, crushing him against the truck in front.

Mehrtens was well known here, where he had been in business for some time, and his death in the terrible accident was a severe shock to the community. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Bertha Mehrtens and two children, Freda and Helen.

The funeral will be held next Monday, with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery in San Francisco. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the F. E. Sawyer Company. Mehrtens was 45 years of age.
