EDWARD W. KURONEN

Funeral services for Edward W. Kuronen, 60, a 10-year resident of Tamalpais Valley, will be Friday in Sturgis, S.D.

He was dead-on-arrival at a local hospital Monday morning after collapsing at home while getting the morning newspaper.

He was born and raised in Newell, S.D. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign during World War II with the Army-Air Force.

After being discharged, he lived in Omaha, Neb., and then came to the Bay Area in 1961, where he lived in San Bruno and San Francisco before settling in Tamalpais Valley.

He ran his own auto body shop in San Bruno and later worked for various Marin County and San Francisco auto body shops before retiring about five years ago because of health problems.

Kuronen was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Tamalpais Valley and the Independent Order of Foresters of Marin County No. 1950.

He is survived by two brothers, William O. Kuronen of Payson, Ariz., and J. J. Kuronen of Rapid City, S.D.; and two sisters, Jennie L. Sly of Stugis, S.D., and Alma Brannon of Tamalpais Valley.

There will be no local funeral services. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Arrangements are being handled by Jolley Funeral Home in Sturgis. The family prefers contributions to the American Heart Fund or charities of the donor’s choice.
