VEAR E. PHELPS
At his request there will be no funeral service for Vear E. Phelps, 81, of San Rafael. He died Friday at a local hospital.
A native of Stillwater, Minn., he lived much of his adult life in Seattle, Wash. He settled in Marin County in 1967.
He served in World War I as a radio operator aboard a submarine chaser.
He was active in the labor movement, serving as vice-president of the Building Service Union in Seattle. He also was active in various fraternal organizations in Marin County and Seattle.
He is a past master of Green Lake Lodge No. 149 of F.& A.M., and had belonged to Aloha Chapter No. 116 Order of Eastern Star, Marin Royal Arch Chapter No. 102 in San Rafael and the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 1416 in Seattle.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Phelps of San Rafael; and two sons, Elwin Phelps and Edward Phelps; two sisters (sic), Hermie Whitish of Yakewia, Wash., and Ole Whitish of Seattle; six grandchildren, and seven great-great (sic) grandchildren. The family prefers memorial contributions to Masonic and Eastern Star homes.
Arrangements are being handled by Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. The body is being cremated.
