MARGARET GRANT Dies At Age 62

Word has been received in Marin of the death of Margaret Grant of Mendocino County, former owner of the paperback book store at Mill Valley’s bus depot.

Mrs. Grant, 62, proprietor with her husband, Merritt, of Harbor House, an inn in Elk, died at home Nov. 23 after a long illness.

The couple, who had been living in Sausalito, left Marin County in 1965 to take over operation of the inn, where they had vacationed for many years.

Born on a farm in Caswell County, North Carolina, Mrs. Grant graduated from Flora McDonald College in that state, and later went to work as a secretary in the Greek Embassy in Washington, D.C.

From 1945 until 1954, when she returned to the United States to be married, Mrs. Grant held positions with the State Department abroad. She was among a group of foreigners observing the first free Greek elections following World War II.

Other assignments were in the Middle East, Korea and the Philippines.

Mrs. Grant operated the book store for about 14 years, also serving part of that time as ticket agent for Greyhound. She is a former member of the Sausalito Presbyterian Church, and once took part in League of Women Voters activities in Marin.

Her husband also is a former government worker and was an official of Trans World Airlines in San Francisco when the couple moved to Marin.

Survivors, besides her husband, are a daughter, Patricia Ferrentino of New Zealand; a sister, Dorothy Compton of Washington, D.C., and three grandchildren.

Funeral was private.
