SELDEN W. BENEPE
Selden Warfield “Bud” Benepe of Novato died Sunday in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was 70.
He was born in Sebastopol and lived most of his life in San Rafael, moving to Novato 17 years. His father, the late Selden C. Benepe, was a pioneer conductor for the Northwestern Pacific Railroad.
Benepe served in the Navy during the 1930s, worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard during World War II, then was employed with the San Rafael Police Department until 1952. He later worked as a mechanic for the Coca Cola Bottling Co.
He was a member of the Mount Tamalpais Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West, and of Sons in Retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Benepe, of Novato; two daughters, Donna Holland of Fountain Valley, Orange County, and Laureen Clinton of San Rafael; a son, Thomas Benepe of San Rafael, and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Monte’s Mission Chapel, San Rafael. Inurnment will be private.
The family prefers memorial gifts to the Heart Association or any favorite charity.
Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday between noon and 9 p.m.
