Sebastian Serff, 73, Veteran Policeman, Dies of Heart Attack
Sebastian Serff, special police officer for many years, assigned to duty in the northeastern part of San Rafael for many years, passed away last Sunday at his home, following a heart attack, shortly after returning from services at church.
Officer Serff has been in failing health for several years. His decline was noted following an accident a few years ago when he fell into an open well while patrolling. He was rescued by firemen while clinging to a pipe.
Mr. Serff was 73 years of age, and a native of Germany. He had been with the department for 25 years.
He was the husband of Marie Serff, father of Capt. Paul Serff, U.S. Army, Honolulu; Mrs. Geo. Rogers. He was a member of San Rafael Council, Knights of Columbus.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 8:30 from the Keaton & Dusel chapel, thence, under police escort to St. Raphael’s, where mass was said. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The flag at the city hall was at half-mast up to the time of the funeral.
