MARGARET HAMMER
Margaret Hammer, a 49-year resident of Marin and president of the Marin Women’s Legislative Council, died Monday in a local hospital. She was 79.
Mrs. Hammer, a San Anselmo resident, was a founding member of the local Legislative Council and had served as president several times. She assumed the position again in June of this year. The Council worked for better county government and studied legislation affecting women and children.
During her life she was active in community affairs. Mrs. Hammer served as president of the President’s Assembly, president of the Marin Motion Picture Council, vice president of the Northern California Motion Picture Coordinating Council, president of the Fairfax Women’s Club, and as an Easter Seal Chairman.
In addition, she was active in the Red Cross, St. Anselm’s Young Ladies Institute and the San Rafael Improvement Club.
Mrs. Hammer attended school in Kansas City, Kan., where she studied journalism, secretarial skills and office management.
Her hobbies included gourmet cooking, creative arts, bridge and philanthropy.
She is survived by her husband, Paul A. Hammer, and two sons, Roger A. Hammer and Paul E. Hammer.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo.
