Maj. GEORGE WORDEN
Maj. George D. Worden, U.S.A.F. retired, died in his Novato home Friday evening after a long illness. He was 83.
A native of Missouri, he lived in Novato since 1952 when he was assigned to duty at Hamilton Air Force Base.
Worden was a veteran of World War I, World War II, and the Korean Conflict, serving a total of 19 years in the military.
Worden served during World War I as a private in the U.S. Army and joined again for service as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army Air corps during World War II and was recalled for duty in the Korean conflict.
Worden’s military career was interspersed with 20 years service to the U.S. Post Office in Kansas.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Novato, the Masonic Lodge, the Odd Fellows Lodge, and the Boy Scouts of America in Olathe, Kan.
Worden was a scoutmaster in Olathe, Kan.
Worden was preceded in death by his wife, the late Ona F. Worden, in April.
Survivors include two daughters, Georgie Reardon of Oxford, Ohio, and Virginia Fraser of Novato; a sister, Gladys Able of Creston, Iowa; three brothers, Ray, Russ and Carl Worden, all of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the United Methodist Church in Novato. He will be buried at Bahia Valley memorial Park in Novato.
Friends may call at the Redwood Funeral Chapel until noon on Tuesday.
The family prefers memorial contributions in his name to The United Methodist Church in Novato or to Hospice of Marin.
