LUCY PALO

Lucy Palo of San Anselmo, a Marin resident for many years and former San Anselmo librarian for 36 years, died today at a local convalescent hospital. She was 66.

Mrs. Palo was a Berkeley native, but moved to Marin as a child.

She attended what is now Wade Thomas School.

Mrs. Palo went to work for the city in 1942 and retired in 1978. She served for 36 years and City Manager Alan Bruce said she apparently had the longest tenure of any employee in the city’s history.

She served as head librarian from 1968 to 1978.

When she retired, the city council approved a resolution noting that while “she was small in stature, she was large in quiet accomplishment.”

She was married to John Palo, who died before her.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Gerry Steinborn of Novato; a brother, E. Norton Dawson of Auburn; and three nephews.

Private family services were held at the Chapel of the Hills mortuary in San Anselmo.

The family prefers memorial donations to the Friends of San Anselmo Library.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that she was the aunt of Drake Dawson of San Anselmo, Bruce Dawson of Novato and Peter Dawson of Milwaukee, Wis.
