MABEL H. METTE

Memorial services for Mabel H. Mette, a longtime resident of Sleepy Hollow, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Ross.

She died at a local convalescent hospital on Thursday. She was 91.

A native of Southfield, Mich., she had been a teacher for about 40 years. She last taught in Los Angeles before retiring in 1948 and moving to Marin County. She had been married to her husband, Clarence A. Mette of Sleepy Hollow, for more than 67 years.

She had attended the University of California at Los Angeles.

She was a member of the California Retired Teachers Association, the National Teachers Association, Sleepy Hollow Home Association and the Women’s Guild at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Ross.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Margaret M. McLellan of Norwalk, Calif.; a son, Clarence A. Mette Jr., a retired U.S. Army colonel of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. Burial will be private.
