MELVIN B. FROCHEN

Private services for Melvin Burton Frochen, 66, of Santa Rosa, a former resident of Marin, were held Thursday.

Frochen died Wednesday at his home after a short illness.

Frochen had been secretary-treasurer of States Steamship Co. and before his retirement eight years ago was chairman of the finance committee of the American Steamship Lines.

Frochen was a native of San Francisco who was reared in Tiburon and was a longtime resident of Marin before moving to Santa Rosa.

He was a graduate of Tamalpais High School, the College of Marin and the University of California at Berkeley.

Frochen was secretary of the Robert Ripley Branch No. 53, Sons in Retirement, in Sonoma County.

Surviving are his wife, Marian Frochen of Santa Rosa; a son, George Frochen of Texas; a sister, Florence Ledford of Pittsburg, Contra Costa County; and two grandchildren.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 811 College Ave., Santa Rosa, or Home Hospice of Sonoma County, P. O. Box 11546, Santa Rosa.
