WILLIAM F. HOFFMAN

William F. Hoffman, 72, of San Rafael, a retired businessman, died at home Monday night of an illness.

Hoffman was the retired owner of the Palace Food Market in Point Reyes Station and previously had been in the cleaning business with his son Robert for 20 years in San Rafael and Terra Linda.

He also had worked at Marinship shipyards during World War II. He retired four years ago from the market business.

Hoffman was known as an avid bowler. He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, who moved to California in 1943.

Surviving are three son, William F. Hoffman Jr. and Robert A. Hoffman, both of San Rafael, and Paul Hoffman of Mill Valley; a daughter, Catherine Fischer of Santa Rosa; and 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Monte’s Mission Chapel, San Rafael. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
