DAVID WINSLOW
David Winslow, 64, of Tiburon, a manufacturer’s representative in the marine, aerospace and builders’ hardware industries, died Tuesday at his home after an illness.
Winslow had served as chairman of the Republican Central Committee of Marin during the 1960s. Active in church all his life, he was president of the congregation of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Tiburon at the time of his death.
Born in Meriden, Conn., in 1916, Winslow was the son of Carlton and Sarah Stevens Winslow. His ancestor, Edward Winslow, sailed on the Mayflower with Governor Bradford and was the third governor of the Massachusetts Colony. His great-grandfather, George Winslow, has the only marked grave on the Oregon Trail at Fairbury, Neb.
Winslow graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Amherst College, Mass., in 1938 and attended Harvard Law School and Yale Business School.
He received Amherst’s Medal for Eminent Service in 1961 and last month was presented with the Distinguished Service Award by the executive committee of the Amherst Alumni Council.
Winslow also served for several years on the board of trustees of Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera and on the board of governors of Shawnigan Lake School in British Columbia, Canada.
He moved to California in 1943 and has been a resident of Tiburon for 34 years.
Winslow was a member of both the Northern and Southern California Marine Associations and was recipient of the Southern California Marine Association’s award for outstanding service to the marine industry last month.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn, of Tiburon; three daughters, Kathleen Weld of Dover, Mass., Rebecca Pringle of Tiburon and Pamela Majauskas of Oakland; three sons, David Winslow Jr.. of Huntington Beach, and Christopher and Jeffrey Winslow, both of Tiburon; a brother, Carlton Henry Winslow of Wallingford, Conn.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Shepherd of the Hills Church, Shepherd Way off Trestle Glen Boulevard, Tiburon. The family prefers that memorial contributions in memory of David Winslow be made to Amherst College, in care of the treasurer’s office, Amherst College, Amherst, Mass. 01002, or Hospice of Marin, 77 Mark Drive, Suite No. 15, San Rafael, Calif. 94903.
