RICHARD D. ALLEN
Richard Donovan Allen, 61, of Kentfield, a retired business executive, died Tuesday at his home after an illness.
Allen has been vice president of Quaker Oats International and vice president of United Vintners and had worked for various advertising agencies before suffering a stroke in 1970.
He was a native of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Allen served in the 8th Air Force and later in the O.S.S. under “Wild Bill” Donovan as a captain during World War II.
He graduated from command and general staff school at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
The Marin County Volunteer Bureau named his a volunteer of the year in 1975 for services he did in spite of handicaps due to his stroke.
Allen was a resident of Marin for 21 years and previously lived in Wayne, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Allen of Kentfield; a son, Richard Allen Jr. of Inverness; two daughters, Sarah Miller of Fairfax and Janet Marrack of Kamuela, Hawaii; and three grandchildren.
Services will be private. The family prefers donations be made to Hospice of Marin, 77 Mark Drive, San Rafael, 94903.
