BLANCHE H. ELY
Blanche H. Ely of San Anselmo, longtime Marin resident, died Thursday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 71.
Mrs. Ely was born and raised in Oakland. She attended Castilleja School in Palo Alto and the University of California, Berkeley.
She was the daughter of Dwight Hutchinson, onetime owner of Hutchinson’s quarry, now the site of Larkspur Landing.
Mrs. Ely had lived in Marin 39 years. She had been a volunteer worker for various organizations, including the Marin Art and Garden Center and Sunny Hills. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross and the Century Club in San Francisco.
Surviving are her husband, I. J. Ely; two sons, Dwight Ely of Vallejo and Thomas A. Ely of Orinda; a sister, Cary Foster of Fortuna; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be private. The family prefers memorial contributions to Hospice of Marin.
