William Mahoney, son of Attorney W. H. Mahoney of this city, reached here the other day and caused a gloom of sadness to be cast over the friends of this young man who is well known in this city, having graduated from the local high school. The young man had been making a tour of the northern states and contracted a severe cold which settled in his back and caused spinal meningitis. At Yreka he was compelled to stop, and soon expired. The grief stricken parents went to that city and removed the remains of their son to San Francisco, where they were cremated in Odd Fellows Cemetery on Tuesday.
