Holmes S. Norville

Holmes S. "Pete" Norville, a former mayor of Corte Madera, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 1989, at Humana Hospital in Phoenix of complications following heart surgery. He was 64.

He was elected to the Corte Madera Town Council in 1966 and served as mayor from 1971 to 1973.

Mr. Norville was born in Albuquerque, N.M. and got his degree in mechanical engineering in 1948 from Iowa State College.

He was in the Navy from 1943 to 1947 and from 1950 to 1960, serving in China, Japan and Korea. He held eleven decorations and awards, including the Korean Order of Merit, "Chung Mu," for his service as an adviser to the Korean Navy from 1950 to 1952.

He lived in Corte Madera for 20 years before moving in 1978 to Casa Grande, Ariz. Before his election to the Corte Madera City Council, he served three terms as president of the Marin Estates Homeowners Association.

He had recently retired from Hexcel Corp. after many years in several engineering capacities in plants in Casa Grande, Dublin and Liege, Belgium. The company manufactures special tooling to produce material used in lightweight aerospace structures.

He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Norville of San Rafael, and a brother, Howard Norville of Adelanto, San Bernadino County. His wife, Alta May, died in 1986.

Funeral arrangements were pending in Casa Grande.
